About the job
Nurse is responsible for the promotion of resident and employee health and wellness through supervision of Medication Aides, assessment, teaching, consultation, the maintenance of appropriate systems and documentation and the effective coordination of ancillary health services. This position works in close cooperation with the Administrator and Resident Care Manager. The nurse requires a knowledge of aging and an ability to communicate with sensitivity and work effectively with a wide range of people in circumstances that may be complex and stressful. The position requires an understanding of and commitment to the values and principles of assisted living, creativity, and flexibility in delivering health related services in a residential service setting, and a willingness and ability to teach lay persons routine and selected delegated tasks of nursing when such teaching is appropriate and consistent with assisted living practices, State rules, and community standards.
Requirements
Education and Qualifications
Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Oregon
Must be able to speak and write the English language in a professional and understandable manner.
Must be knowledgeable in the development and use of:
Service plans
Medication management and systems
Infection control and universal precaution procedures
Nurse delegation procedures.
Alzheimer’s and other dementias
First aid, CPR, fire, and life safety practices
Must have ability to organize, plan and direct individual care and facility-wide programs
Must be able to supervise staff in a manner that supports employee self esteem and team building as well as effective performance
Must be able to interact with residents, other staff, visitors, and the community in a courteous and diplomatic manner under even stressful circumstances
Must be flexible and creative in assuring good nursing and health practices while supporting resident autonomy, independence, and the residential character of the assisted living setting
Must be able to work flexible hours, weekends and participate in scheduled holiday activities
Must be willing to delegate certain special tasks of nursing in accordance with State Board of Nursing rules for Nurse Delegation
Must be able to sit, stand, walk, stoop, and work in the assisted living environment to perform the functions of the job
Must be flexible, receptive, and adaptive to change
