About the job

The Director of Food Services is responsible for nutritious meals served to residents. This is achieved by hiring, scheduling and supervision of kitchen staff, menu planning, purchasing food and supplies, and maintaining kitchen cleanliness. This person works in close cooperation with the Administrator and other department heads. This position requires a knowledge of aging, an ability to communicate with sensitivity and work effectively with people in circumstances that may be complex and stressful. This position requires an understanding of and commitment to the values and principles of assisted living, creativity, and flexibility.


Education and Qualifications

  • Speak      and write the English language in a professional and understandable manner

  • Perform      simple arithmetic and units of measurement conversions used in food      preparation

  • Follow      oral and/or written directions

  • Knowledgeable      in the development and use of:

  • Service       Plan

  • Infection       control and universal precaution procedures

  • Addressing       needs of residents with Alzheimer’s and other dementias as related to       food service

  • Life Safety       practices

  • Menus

  • Portion       Control

  • Recipes

  • Food       inventory and budget

  • Work      as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality

  • High      school graduate or GED Certificate Preferred

  • Two      years experience in food service

  • Organize,      plan, direct and follow-up in the management of the Dietary Dept.

  • Supervise      Dietary Dept. staff in a manner that supports employee self esteem and      team building as well as effective performance

  • Interact      with residents, other staff, visitors, and the community in a courteous      and diplomatic manner under even stressful circumstances

  • Flexible,      receptive, and able to adapt to change

  • Sit,      stand, walk, stoop, and work in the assisted living dietary department to      perform the functions of the job

  • Able      to lift 25 to 35 pounds

  • Possess      current Food Handler’s card

  • Possess      current CPR (including abdominal thrust) and First Aid certification for      health care providers (new hires will have thirty (30) days to obtain      certification)
